How then can it truly be said that we
desired complete separation f
General Henderson atater that he drew the conclusion that such was my desire because of a par- ticular expression used by me at the meeting on the 10th instant. At that Keeting, -in the discussion which took place over the resolutions which I had proposed for the purpose of applying principles which I understood had already been accepted by your Committee the Chairman suggested that I was waing my position as keeper of the funds made available from Hongkong in order to drive a hard bargain. In reply to this suggestion I bogged all present to believe that it was far from my wish to impose unreasonable conditions. I explained that I felt myself to be in the position of a Trustee of the funds in question and I pointed out that, unless the administration of the Hospital were condu.ted in such a way as to enable me to see and subeequently to say, precisely where and how these funds had been expended. I could not possibly give an account of my stewardship and to that extent would fail in my duty to those whose interests I was privileged to represent. I went out of my way to disclaim any idea of taking advantage of the fact that I happened at the morent to hold the purES strings'. I said this before my resolutions had
been voted upon
After I had said it they were
accepted in principle
